Particles was made during the artists years-long battle with a lung condition (the result of a pernicious tropical mould mycosis that greatly compromised her breathing). The main sound source was recorded in the wee hours of the morning after taking a rescue inhaler. Frogs and night creatures can be heard outside and surf can be heard in the distance. The footage was shot by the artist as she struggled maintain control while in turbulent surf. Non-diegitic sound blends both temporal experiences.
Bowie created works directly documentating her environment flanking the jungle from 2015 to 2022.
Like the Veils series, the focus is on the experience of time and sensation, rather than a particular or recognizable context or locale.
